Judge’s Commentary:

Author Finley Jones Keller has written a delightful story about two little kittens, an opossum, and a raccoon who become their new friends. There are lessons here about friendship and not making fun of others, you never know when they may come to your rescue.
The story flows smoothly. It is easy to read. It is a good read aloud book and emerging readers will love it, too.
The illustrations by Keller are cartoonish and fun. They add nicely to the story. This is book six in the Children’s Stories from Keller Farms, and it will make children want to read the others.”

THE KITTENS AND THE EASTER BUNNY by Finley Keller is a whimsical look at – as the title tells us – kittens and the Easter bunny. This early reader story is sure to be enjoyed by kids and adults everywhere. Even those who don’t celebrate Easter can still be intrigued by the plot and pictures. I like that it’s long enough to be a good story, but short enough to be read aloud. The illustrations are cute, and I appreciate how the real-life animals are pictured on the back cover, along with the author bio. After reading this book, I feel certain that readers will look for other books in the series! This version of the Easter bunny is a little different than the one I grew up with, where there is really only one Easter bunny. I realize that many Easter bunnies are needed for this story to work.  As for the writing, it’s a bit passive in places. Instead of using “were” I suggest the author use more active verbs. Overall, THE KITTENS AND THE EASTER BUNNY is a nice story with a plot that feels unique. I especially like how they will never keep a secret from Mommy. A very nice touch.
